How well does the Blackberry pearl work when flashed to cricket?
Q. I am thinking about flashing over a Verizon blackberry pearl to cricket and had a few questions.
1) How well does a flashed blackberry pearl work?
2) will it force my family to change the plan that it is on?
Any more info that you know on the subject will be greatly appreciated.

A. I don't have a Blackberry, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to warn you off of Cricket. I signed up with Cricket just 3 months ago, and WOW, I'm already thinking of leaving. Cricket has been almost laughably horrible; I mean you could make a sitcom about how bad it is.

They routinely overbill me, so I have to call customer service to get it corrected... but their customer service staff doesn't have the ability to fix the billing problem. Also, their voice-mail system keeps deleting my messages before I've heard them, and I've called customer service for that problem (many times), but they don't have the ability to fix that either.

Cricket is so bad, it's almost funny. I would say, no-go on the Cricket.

To read hundreds of other similar stories, you can Google "Cricket Wireless Problems" and that'll probably scare you off for good.

What color of the blackberry pearl flip does verizon wireless carry?
Q. Also i hear people say it has a short battery life and that its kind or bulky is that true?

A. pearl.....the color that verizon carrys for the pearl flip is silver/grey...however you want to look at it i suppose, otherwise, I'm not too sure about the battery, but honestly it's not like blackberry wants to sell devices with short battery spans, whatever the battery life expectancy is listed on the verizon website is most likely an accurate depiction, remember that any phone company that makes phones are required to be sure every aspect of the device works properly or conditioned for consumers. like any company, blackberry spends millions each year testing equipment and making sure it works, why do you think the phones cost so much at retail price, consumers are in the long run paying for every aspect of r&d which includes testing devices for hours on end for months at a time to ensure quality control and that way they can say things like what a phones battery life expectancy for standby and talk time will be, and still be able to back it up with countless hours of data analysis to back it up. ....fact is some people may recieve defective batterys that simply need replacing...,

The phone isnt necessarily bulky, its just the fact that a pearl usually is a brick..., whereas now it's like having a pearl & a half, ....and the fact it's the only flip phone blackberry sells...., its just like any other phone, once you've had it enough, you'll get use to it..., its all relative to the user to results may vary......keep that in mind..,

What are the possible advantages and disadvantages of the new Blackberry Torch?

Q. What are the possible advantages and disadvantages of the new Blackberry Torch?Im thinking of buying one.

A. I switched phones with my friend for a day, I have the blackberry bold 9700 and she has the torch, and I actually really liked hers! The only things that were not very impressive to me were the keypad, which was very small, and I made lots of mistakes on it, and the fact that when it slides out, it is really tall, and since the touchscreen part is very heavy, it tends to want to fall forwards, making it harder to type on the keypad. But other than that, the function is great, it's really speedy, lots of fun, and you can type in landscape on the touch screen or t9, or change t9 to a smaller complete screenpad. I think it's great, but if you need the keypad for business all the time, I must say I wouldn't suggest it.

How to transfer data from an old blackberry to a new blackberry?
Q. My dad has a Blackberry 9780 and I have a 8900. My dad is getting a android phone so he is going to give me his 9780. What do I do to transfer all my data to his cellphone. Also I want to erase all of his data so it would be like a new one. Or if a transfer my data from my old cellphone, all of his old data would erase and the data from my old one would be there instead?

A. The easiest way to do this is using the Blackberry Desktop Software.

1-Connect your Blackberry to your computer using your USB cable
2-Open the Blackberry Desktop Software on your computer (Double click it)
3-Wait till the Desktop software detects your blackberry
4-Click on "Device"
5-Click "Switch Devices"
6-Follow the Instructions.

The Blackberry Desktop software will first back up all of the files in your blackberry, then once this is done, it will ask you to disconnect your Blackberry and connect the new device (Your father's blackberry). It will transfer all of your data and files to your new device.

I remember in the past I didn't know this how to do this and I used to spend a looooooooooong time transferring all of the info from my old phone to my new one. It Sucked!

How do i transfer contacts from my old blackberry to my new blackberry?
Q. I just bought a new blackberry and want to transfer my contacts from my old to my new one, and don't see any options in any of the menu's. Would also like to transfer my apps but i'm assuming that's not possible.

A. You can do this right through your Blackberry (BB) Desktop Software. Just plug your BB into your PC with the USB it came with and open the BB Desktop Software. Before attempting the switch I would suggest making a backup just in case. To do this just go to the Device tab in the upper left corner and select back up from the drop-down menu.

When the back up is complete go to the Device tab again and select Switch Devices from the drop-down menu. When the menu open select your BB and then select what you want transferred on the next screen. Follow the prompts and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps!

A. Yes you can you need to get it unlocked tell tmobile that you are going out of the country and need your phone unlocked they will tell you how to do it. It might take a few days but they will give it to you the stores will not help with this issue. And the bis service will work fine once you change the settings in the phone to ATTs settings. I know cause i did it. And if you bring your own phone you can do a one year contract on ATT with it and upgrade to a new phone at any time at an ATT corporate store not an agent.

How do you update your BlackBerry software?

Q. I bought my BlackBerry Curve two months ago, it is the new one, and I wondered how do I get to download/install any available updates for it.

A. Install BB Desktop Manager on your computer. Get it here:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

Attach your phone via USB cable and open BBDM. Any updates should listed. If they aren't a Click on The Application Loader icon.

How common are Blackberry software problems?
Q. As of Thursday my Blackberry started having software problems. Basically my screen turns white and it will not do anything. I called Sprint and they told me that this is a "fatal software error" and they are going to be sending me a replacement phone. How common are these errors and are there any ways to prevent these errors?

A. Software problems are not all that common, but working in the wireless industry I see them alot.

The best ways to avoid having to get replacements is to regularly back up your device using the Blackberry Desktop Manager. If you start having issues, you can just do a restore to your latest back up.

The "fatal software error", or "white screen of death" usually happens when your phone is plugged into the computer, and it is unplugged/disconnected before the computer is ready. The desktop manager will always give a warning saying "don't unplug your device". There are other causes for that, but most have to do with a defective device or a defective version of handheld softare.

Regular software problems can easily be fixed by reinstalling the latest handheld software on the phone. Sprint should be able to walk you through it, but it is pretty basic if you have the desktop manager and download the handheld software from blackberry.com.

What version of blackberry desktop software manager do I need?
Q. I have a curve 8830, and all I wish to do is transfer my contacts over. That is it

A. Just download version 5.0 which is the lastest, and pick the version WITHOUT media manager.

How do I use the Blackberry Pearl suretype function effectively?
Q. NOTE: I have tried using the suretype but it does not seem to display the letters the way I need them to..
Any tips?
PLEASE, INFORMED ANSWERS ONLY. Thanks everyone for the help.

A. In order to use SureType effectively when you are first starting out, just start typing the word you are trying to spell without looking at the screen. If you look at the screen you will think that the device is picking the wrong letters. Just keep typing the word and 90-95% of the time it will correctly guess the word. For custom words, of course, you will need to pick the correct letter. But the device (by default) will learn those words.

Below is a link to a SureType tutorial:

The iPhone 3Gâs new enterprise aspirations put it spot in the middle of RIMâs business niche radar. The enterprise market that RIM has essentially dominated in the US is now under attack from the sleek new wares from Cupertino, and RIM isnât about to sit back and watch Apple encroach on their turf.

Will the accessories for the Blackberry Storm 2 fit the Blackberry Storm 1?

Q. I just bought a first generation Blackberry Storm and I want to buy a silicone case for it so it won't get scratched up. However, all I can find is the silicone cases for the Storm 2. The guy at the verizon store said that it wouldn't fit, but i wasn't sure if he was honest about it or not. Any help?

A. No they won't fit- the phones are different sizes

give me your personal experience on the must have external accessory for the blackberry curve and?
Q. software. Can't decide whether to get a hard case or skin? I want protection, but I also want it to clip. Maybe I don't need hardcase since i am mainly office worker; I also will bring it with me to the gym. too many choices! help! I also don't like the menu. What is the shortcut for locking the keyboard/phone?

A. Here is what I do. I have a BodyGuardz Protector on my BB Curve to protect from scratches. You cannot see the BGP on the phone, but it offers scratch-proof on your Blackberry. It was tested on CNN against others, and this was rated the highest.

As far as holding it, I would go for the OEM Blackberry Holder. This clips on your Belt, and offers quick access to yoru Blackberry.

As far as your last question. If you have the OEM Holster, you can make it so that the BB Locks itself automatically in the holster. Go to your Options > Security > General Settings, and go to "Lock Handheld Upon Holstering" and change that to "yes". There is a magnet in the BB as well as the Holster, and when they magnatize, the BB locks itself.

You can also set up a Side-Convenience key to Lock the BB for you. Go to Options > Screen and Keyboard > and scroll down to "Side Convenince Key". Pick either left or right key, and choose "Lock" for the Application.

And if you don't like the menu, get a new Theme. Just do a search. And if that doesn't suit you, why get a BB?

Why does my Blackberry Pearl start a conversation on speakerphone then go to normal after about 5 seconds?

Q. When someone calls me, for about the first 5 seconds of the call it is on speakerphone, then it goes to normal. It was not like this yesterday when I got the phone. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Or what I can do to make sure it only goes to speakerphone when I push the speakerphone button?

A. maby it got damaged you can cheack by going to a cell phone store (depends what server you have) or you might have set it to do that you can also check online

Purchased a new Blackberry Pearl but the battery seems to die fast. Is it normal to have to charge everyday?
Q. I don't use it much, does it just use a lot of power to be on? If I put it in standby mode would that help save battery, and will I still be able to receive text messages and phone calls?
Any information about this phone would be wonderful!

A. The Pearls battery is not the largest. Some things you can do to conserve battery power are:

1. Lower the screen brightness: you can do this by going to Options > Screen/Keyboard. I set mine to 10

2. Don't use vibrate notifications. The vibrate function uses more battery power than tone notifications.

3. Put in standy while not using it.

With normal usage I can typically get a day and a half out of the device. If I take a lot of calls and they are long then maybe a day.

why does my blackberry pearl 8100 messages suddenly start disappearing?

Q. i cannot see sent messages or recieved ones.
how can i fix this?

A. It sounds as though you have a low amount of internal memory. Follow the steps in the link below to free up memory:

http://bit.ly/a5hHG

What month will the BlackBerry Thunder be released?

Q. An actual month please? I read every where it's gonna be released Q(then a number). I don't quite understand that.

Thank you so much for any help!

A. According to The Boy Genius Report, (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/05/13/blackberry-thunder-the-touchscreen-blackberry-weve-all-been-waiting-for/ ) the Blackberry Thunder, now called the Blackberry 9500, will launch in Q3 of this year. That means it will launch in the third quarter - July, August, or September (probably September).

The Boy Genius also reports that this touchscreen Blackberry device will launch as a worldwide lifetime exclusive on Verizon and Vodafone.

Does anybody have any info on the Blackberry Thunder im starting to see surface online?
Q. Im starting to see some information on a New blackberry coming out for Verizon Wireless called the Blackberry Thunder or whatever number it is. Im definatly gonna be interested in this. Does anybody have any info besides what i have found on a couple sites?? Thanks All

A. I was reading about that as well, but don't have any other solid information other than it is supposed to be a full touch screen device. That's all I really know at this point. It will probably come with the newest 4.6 operating system (like the soon-to-be released BlackBerry Bold). It will also probably (just my guess) have a lot of the same hardware specifications of the Bold (like processor speed, memory, etc).

What is the retail price for the blackberry thunder going to be?
Q.

A. Hi

It has not yet publicly been announce yet. All the pictures that you see is not officially announce. Trust me. I know and have good re-sources.

Q. I've noticed in my contacts that under some names are the companies/organizations where my friends work, but then some don't have that info. Is that obtained through facebook or something else? Can they see mine? Just curious.

A. Its most likely obtained through Outlook. If the contact has an email signature or a V-Card associated with their email, outlook and blackberry will pull information out of there.

How is the Blackberry Storm and is it compatible with mac laptops and itunes?
Q. For all of you who have the blackberry storm, what are the pros and cons of the touch screen blackberry and would you suggest getting it? Also, is it compatible with macs and itunes? Thanks.

A. Well, let me just say that the Blackberry storm is one of the greatest phones i've ever used in my life. Really when you push down on the screen the fact that it clicks and pushes in is great for the accuracy of what your are pressing. It is very fast and has great features. Truly a great phone.

Why is an iPhone more expensive than even a Blackberry Bold despite the latter being more business-oriented?

Q. Also, which is realistically more practical, a Blackberry Smartphone or a Nokia Smartphone? Some of the advantages of the latter appear to be some providers offer unlimited push email for a quarter of the price of the former and cheaper 3G units. What is Blackberry's advantage?
For personal use?

A. It is obvious that thee BlackBerry Bold 9700 or 9650 are the more realistically practical choices for the enterprise due to BES. Yes, it is more expensive. If you'd like a cheaper plan on the company's side, consider BES Express. Keep in mind that BIS is also very useful for your personal email, wireless desktop synch or exchange but BES is always the government, hospital or enterprise choice. Also, the BlackBerry can even serve as your PBX when away from the office and you can share your notes and information wirelessly. BlackBerry Messenger is also rated faster than SMS in times of emergencies. The 9700 on 3G will allow you to simultaneously send and receive data whilst engaged on a call so this is particularly useful for those who need to stay on long conversations whilst multitasking with sending and receiving email, browsing the web for stock quotes, receiving new calendar data from the secretary about a new meeting or a meeting that has been moved up or cancelled, and even use facebook, twitter, linkedin or whatever social network.
The BlackBerry offers uncompromised instant and secure wireless delivery of email, pages, IM, valuable company information, contacts, notes, tasks and calendar information that can either be administered by your IT department or by yourself through the BIS site/email setup icon.

How do i download blackberry software to external hard drive?
Q. I want to download the blackberry software (website download) onto my external harddrive so i can upload the software ontop my laptop. I can't download the software to my laptop from the web because i dont have internet avail on my home computer, and i want to use the blackberry desktop software so i can connect my blackberry to my laptop as a modem. help!

A. First plug the external drive into the computer that's going to be used for this. Make sure windows recognizes the drive. It should appear as whatever the next drive letter is. Probably going to be the "E" drive but it could even be "F". Just depends on that computer. So make sure you can see your external drive before continuing.

Then go to the website where the update is. There should be some sort of button to click on the blackberry site that pertains to "update" or "download", something like that. When you click that button you should then get a window asking you if you want to "run" "save" "cancel" this. Click SAVE.

Without knowing what operating system you have, I can't say what you will see next. But if it's Vista or Windows 7, at this point you will be on a window for saving the file you have selected to save. Look on the left and click on "computer" so that you can expand computer and be able to see all of the drives. Once you see the external drive of yours, just click on it and then select save.

What is the difference between a Blackberry Bold, the Blackberry Curve, and the iPhone 4?

Q. I know that they all send e-mail, but what exactly do they do that is different. Like service, how the e-mail and documents are set up. Plus Blackberry's seem more useful than a iPhone 4 because all the celebrities and business people have them.

A. bold is the business version of the curve. more memory and a more elegant look. The iphone is mainly known for the app store. blackberry does have apps but there are not nearly as many and to be honest the apps kinda suck. I love blackberry though and iphone too. iphones are also prone to shattering while blackberries don't. On the blackberry you can have a corporate email account and the iphone only has one POP account. The blackberry can open Microsoft word files and the iphone cannot. also the iphone is touch and the blackberries that you asked about aren't

Is there a easier way to transfer my contacts other than having to write them down? Because i know for same companies, you can transfer contacts at a local t-mobile or verizon phone.

A. From your Bold's browser, go to "http://m.google.com" (take out the default www). Download the application Google Sync. This will allow you to sync not only your contacts, but your messages and your calendar to your gmail account. Once you get your droid - simply put in your gmail on the setup screen and you should see all your information sync to your phone.

How can I get blackberry accessories?

Q.

A. go to play.com and type in blackberry accesories
